The principle of gold foil embossing is similar to the thick card embossing, but the substrate and operating conditions are completely different. The drawback is that the entire surface appears metallic, but the advantage lies in the stiff and pressure-resistant nature of the plastic material, with clearly visible patterns that exhibit excellent reflective properties. Due to its glittering gold luster, it is frequently used for printing religious cards in Taiwan and finds numerous applications in Japan for collecting cards featuring animated characters.
Gold Foil Embossed Card Printing
There are two main techniques for the expression of gold foil embossing. One is the use of screen dot patterns, somewhat resembling a matte, fine-sand texture. When combined with dots of varying thickness and density, it can depict different levels of light and shadow changes.
Embossing with Color Printing
Another technique for embossed expression is embossing, where specific areas are raised. A thickness difference of approximately 0.1mm (10 lines) results in a noticeable embossed feel. In embossing, color printing can be added to enhance details or colors that cannot be expressed through embossing alone.
Overlaying printing on gold sand embossing, although lacking the tactile feel of gold foil embossing, presents a different texture.
White Ink Base for Color Printing can achieve higher color saturation, but the process complexity and limitations might be a bit more.
